Give the “Gift of Compassion“

Howard is a cancer patient who lives alone with his beloved cat in a rooming house in Regent Park. He had found the kitten in a parking lot but didn’t have the money to spay her.

Unable to bring her to the nearby spay/neuter clinic, Toronto Street Cats volunteers, Anne & Ferne, transported Howard’s kitten to the clinic. She was spayed for free – thanks to a grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada – as part of our “Regent Park Spay Strays Project”.

Howard was so grateful for all the help he wrote a poem for us, called “People Like You”.

People Like You

“I can’t believe you did this for me,
When I found my kitten she was running free.
Now that you’re our new friend,
With any luck strays will come to an end.

The strays are very nice cats,
God bless you for realizing that.
But we always have to keep in mind,
It’s your generosity that is hard to find.

It’s people like you that give me hope,
You do good things instead of dope.
So once more I say thanks,
You’ll always be in my memory bank.”

For the past three years, the Toronto Feral Cat TNR Coalition has spayed and neutered thousands of street cats from monitored colonies, giving these animals a life made just a bit easier. And when we come across tame cats, we help colony caretakers put the cats up for adoption to give them a second chance at a loving home.

Our work is made possible thanks to the support of people like you.

And for only $20, we’ll be able to have our volunteers build an overwintering shelter to keep a cat warm and dry.

For just $35, we’ll be able to purchase the necessary supplies and services to rescue, spay / neuter, and care for a lost or abandoned pet.

Also, your gift will help the person who receives your “Gift of Compassion” better understand the plight of unwanted pets – animals who, we’re told, “nobody wants”. Your “Gift of Compassion” will include a signed certificate, a photo of a feral cat helped by the Coalition, a personalized thank you card, a brochure and bookmark about TNR and the Coalition, and more!
